We led the rebrand, design, and development of a new e-commerce platform for Area51, a Wellington-based fashion retailer, to modernise their digital presence and empower their in-house team. Initially focused on unlocking functionality from a restrictive previous build, the project expanded into a full creative rethink — refining the brand’s identity, eCommerce strategy, and user experience. The new site brings a clean, utilitarian sensibility to the forefront, free from sci-fi tropes, and is built on Shopify to scale with the business.

As one of New Zealand’s most premier boutiques, SHAKES had never ventured into the digital space — until now. We partnered with the fashion store to craft their first-ever online presence, delivering a brand, website design, and development that reflects their curated selection of globally renowned labels and cult status.

The new website captures the boutique’s understated yet bold aesthetic, bringing SHAKES’ unique in-store experience and rich depth of knowledge online while offering a seamless platform for showcasing their carefully selected brands.

Longstanding as leaders in their field, we collaborated with the globally recognised Simon James design team to redesign and re-platform the brand's online store. We dramatically improved the "back-of-house" operations by moving away from the legacy platform to Shopify Online Store 2.0.

Our team meticulously designed the new front-end to reflect Simon James' carefully curated in-store showroom experience. The platform allows customers to easily shop all facets of the business's broad yet elevated offerings, including fashion, jewelry, furniture, and more.
